Distribution

Long finned pilot whales are found in the colder regions of the oceans except the northern part of the pacific. They have been present in this part of the pacific before but appear to be absent today.

Pilot whales don’t stay at the same place for a long time. They are nomadic and try to live there were the most food is found. They are not that picky if you’re talking about the depth of the water, if there’s food the are there.

After the extinction of the population in the northern part of the pacific there are two populations of pilot whales left, a northern and a southern population. Because of the warm water in between these populations are not interfering with each other.
