Snowy Owl
Bubo scandiacus

The snowy owl is the second biggest owl in Norway. You probably know how it looks like – Harry Potter’s owl, Hedwig, is a snowy owl. Still, you probably haven’t seen it in real life, as it is a very rare owl that is endangered in Norway. You can mostly find it in the tundra and the mountains.
If you are in luck and spot a snowy owl, it would be easy to recognize – it has yellow eyes and is white in base colour. Females and young owls are white with darker spots, while males are nearly all white. When the snowy owl opens its wings, the wingspan is about 1,5 meters, the same length as a short human!
The snowy owl mostly east lemming and other small rodents but can also eat birds and other small mammals.
