Entanglement in (abandoned) fishing gear is a growing problem for a lot of sea animals, pilot whales are caught as well. It is hard to say how many dolphins and whales are dying from entanglement, but scientist think we’re talking about 300.000 animals. The cause of death is starvation, infections and exhaustion.
The problem of abandoned fishing gear is popping up everywhere on the planet. On the photo you see a pilot whale in the Strait of Gibraltar. The whale is swimming with a lot of abandoned fishing gear stuck to it’s body.
